Construction is underway on the new bridge which has been named "Elk River Crossing" in a recent Bridge Naming Contest. The centre section of the bridge was put into place on November 9, 2009 (see recent photo below). The remaining sections will be put on between November 10th and 27th barring unforseen difficulties.

Check out the November / December Edition of Kootenay Business Magazine, there is a feature article on the Elk River Crossing bridge. Check out the article here.
This bridge will provide a connection for pedestrian walkways and utility lines from Sparwood Heights to Lower Sparwood and will cost approximately $3.2 million.
This project is being funded by grants from Towns for Tomorrow, LocalMotion and Gas Tax. Click here to see the annoucement of the LocalMotion grant.
A future connection is planned to cross the railway tracks and the trail will lead to somewhere across the street from Frank J. Mitchell Elementary and Sparwood Secondary School.
